After removing the elastic strap from around the circle, the cube cage can pop open unexpectedly, so it is important to have plenty of space and ensure that there are no breakable objects nearby.

After opening the net cage, the PVC side will be creased from folding. To remove the creases, one can blow-dry the PVC with a hair dryer for about 5 minutes or place the PVC towards warm sunlight to relax the wrinkles. It is always important to close the cage door so that the zippers meet at the top center. This will allow you to zip down the other side to open if a caterpillar is somewhere on the zipper.

To clean the mesh cage after a disease outbreak or at the end of the season, it should be soaked in a 5% bleach solution (19 parts water to 1 part bleach) for about 20 minutes. The cage can be soaked in a tub or laundry tub. After that, the cage should be rinsed with water and then left to dry in the sun, either by hanging it on a clothesline or placing a rock on the floor to prevent it from blowing away.

When folding the cage for storage, one should place their hands on opposite upper corners of the cage and press one corner in to fold the cage flat. The cage can then be stored flat in a closet, under a bed, or behind a couch.
