For added protection, the entry hole is shielded by a thick wooden plank and a double-layered metal predator guard. The breathable wooden floor helps keep the nest dry and clean. Furthermore, the interior front panel features three slots that enable young birds to climb and observe the outside world.

When installing this birdhouse, it is recommended to mount it with the entry facing east or south to prevent afternoon overheating. The entry should be positioned away from prevailing winds to minimize the entry of rain or snow. Ideally, the nestbox should be mounted at least 5 feet above the ground to deter climbing predators. The best mounting system is a smooth round pipe, such as 1/2" or 1" electrical conduit, which can be easily inserted into the ground using a post driver from a hardware store.
