Artisan Nester Shesali - The Oval/Oblong Nester

The Artisan Bird Nesters, our very first World Fair Trade Organisation product, offer a unique opportunity to support both wildlife and local artisans in Southern Bangladesh. Purchasing this Fair Trade product helps fund the survival of many women and their families from rural communities in desperate poverty. Each nester is handmade with the highest quality finish, using natural sea grass and recycled saris.

The Shesali is the medium-sized 'Oval' model of our Artisan Wild Bird Nester range. Its oval shape provides a medium-sized cavity, perfect for small garden bird species that roost alone or in pairs. This cozy nester offers a safe haven for birds during harsh winter months, and may even be used as a nest in springtime.

The Fair Trade Bird Nester is designed with a sturdy inner frame for support, and features attached metal hooks at the rear and a long loop at the top, making it easy to securely fasten the nester in the natural leaf cover and vegetation of ivy, bushes, trees, or hedges. The small round entrance is reinforced with steel and slightly protruding, providing easy access for birds to land and perch.

Handwoven and hand-stitched onto a metal frame, the nester offers essential protection against the weather in winter. It can be hung or secured into bushes or shrubs, and the integrated fixing wire ensures a secure placement. As a Fair Trade product, the purchase of this nester directly supports the Artisan workers who create them, helping to improve the lives of women and their families in rural communities.

By positioning the bird nester in a sheltered space, facing between North and South-East, you can provide a warm, protected roosting space for small birds, which can be a life-saver during cold, harsh weather conditions.
